Hurricane Preparations for Pet Owners

Seeking Shelter at a Pet-Friendly Shelter

 

  1. If you decide to evacuate your home, please bring your pet with you.

     

  2. Have your pet current on vaccinations.

     

  3. If your pet has a microchip, phone the manufacturer to verify that they have your correct contact information. 

    If your pet does not have a microchip, strongly consider having one implanted by your veterinarian.

     

  4. Have documentation of:

  •  Proof of ownership

  • Vaccination records

  • Veterinarian name/contact information

  •  Microchip #, manufacturer, phone # 

  • Medication & feeding instructions

  • Current picture of your pet

 *** Keep these items in a waterproof container.

 

5.                  Have supplies for your pet:

    •  Carrier or crate

    •  Food & Water for 2 weeks/Bowls

    • Medications

    • First Aid Kits

    • Bedding &  Toys

    •  Leash & Collar INCLUDING name tag with your contact information, contact information for someone who does not live in the area, and the address of the shelter

    • Manual can opener (for canned food)

    • Spray Cleaner/Paper towels/Newspapers or Litter/Plastic Bags

      *** Label all items with pets’s name
