Hurricane Preparations for Pet Owners

Seeking Shelter at a Pet-Friendly Shelter

 

  1. If you decide to evacuate your home, please bring your pet with you.

     

  2. Have your pet current on vaccinations.

     

  3. If your pet has a microchip, verify with the manufacture that your contact information is correct. 

    If your pet does not have a microchip, strongly recommend that you have one implanted by your veterinarian.

     

  4. Have documentation of:

  •  Proof of ownership

  • Vaccination records

  • Veterinarian name and contact information

  •  Microchip number, manufacturer and phone number

  • Medications and feeding instructions

  • Current picture of your pet

 *** Keep these items in a waterproof container.

 

5.                  Have supplies for your pet:

    •  Carrier or crate

    •  Food and water for 2 weeks

    • Bowls

    • Medications

    • First Aid Kits

    • Bedding and toys

    •  Leash and collar, name tag with your contact information, contact information for someone who does not live in your area, and the address of the shelter

    • Manual can opener (for canned food)

  1. Spray Cleaner, paper towels, newspapers or litter, plastic bags, wee wee pads

    *** Label all items with pet’s name
